Ministry of Water and Energy inked partnership MOU. February 2023, Ministry of Water and Energy signed partnership MOU with Dutch Water Authorities and regional water sectors on phase II Blue Deal Program. Speaking on the event, State Minister for Water Resources Administration at MoWE, H.E. Dr. Abreha Adugna said that the Ministry is committed to fully implement integrated water resource management principles through the planning and implementation of basin plans. His Excellency also stated that the Ministry is exerting its effort on allocating budget and bringing all actors in the sector for participatory planning and implementation of basin plans. He, further, stated that the Ministry in its effort to ensure sustainable management of water resources of the country is developing basin plan for Omo Gibe, Wabe Shabelle, and Baro Akobo and Genale Dawa River basins along with the implementing the finalized basin Plans of Awash, Abbay, and Rift Valley Lakes Basins. H.E. Ambassador Asfaw Dingamo, State Minister for Water Supply and Sanitation on his part underscored that one of the components of the partnership program which aimed at capacitating MoWE and utilities to enable them contribute for waste water management performance in the sanitation service which, in turn, improves human and environmental life is important. H.E. Ambassador Asfaw expressed his belief that the partners will bring their rich experience in the area to address the challenges the sanitation sector is facing. H.E. Ambasader Henk Jan Baker, Ambassader of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Ethiopia expressed his government’s commitment to support the water management sector in Ethiopia as Integrated Water Resource management is the Center of Gravity for their development portfolio on water. The Partnership MOU has been signed between Ministry of water and Energy and Dutch Water Authorities including implementation partners; Afar Water and Energy bureau, Amhara Water and Energy Bureau , Oromia water and Energy bureau Environmental Protection Authority(FDRE). Phase II Blue Deal Program will be implemented from 2023 t0 2026. It encompasses Water allocation, basin plan implementation, water quality management, basin information management and water resources management cooperation.
